Gene Transfer and Resistance Plasmids in Aquatic System

CONCLUSION

Bacteria develop resistance to toxins such as antibiotics in order to survive. In this study, E. coli isolates cultivated from Lake Ontario and drinking water were found resistant to three antibiotics used in human. R plasmids were found in higher rates at “hot spots” such as at stones, which are ideal places to form biofilms, and thus support gene transfer.
